1st bow

Well I've just about finished my first bow, it's ready to shoot, just needs to have some finish put on. Unfortunately it only pulls to 35# @ 28", I think I started it out too thin. How much weight would a bamboo backing add (and it it advisable to put it on red oak)? I have access to some flooring I can rip down. I will have some full draw pics up later today.

35# is pretty good for a first bow, it's15# heavier than most.
It's surprising how fast a well tillered 35# can shoot... you can always find a pretty lady to give it to :-*

Narrow your tips to 3/8" starting your narrowing about a foot down the limbs, reflex your bow on a simple form and toast the belly with a heat gun and you will be pleasantly surprised at the screamer you end up with.

@Eric - the tips are already at 3/8". I still want to back it with silk for safety.

Here's a full draw pic. 1.5" at the fades, parallel to half the limb, tapers to 3/8", 67"ntn, 35#@28"

Looks great,I would probably just shoot and enjoy,BUT if I did want to pick up a little weight I would pike the bottom limb a couple of inches [looks a little weak anyway] and re tiller,that would pick up 4 or 5 lbs at least. Very nice job especially for your first.Congrats you got a shooter. :)

Nice job on that bow. If that is your first looks like we'll be seeing some really good bows from you in the future. Thats good tiller work on that bow and should be a good shooter from the looks of it. Pappy's advice makes sense if you want a little more draw weight but it looks like you have the skills to make your next build come in at the weight you want. You know there will be more don't you. ;)
