osage stave haul
« on: December 11, 2012, 02:54:04 pm »
a while back, a guy had found a huge osage orange tree that had blowed over.  i recall seeing five maybe six logs being cut out of it, 10 maybe 12 inches in diameter.  there was something of a pool to guess how many staves it would make.  the pictures showed it falling over a creek(?).  i am just curious as to how many it finally made.

Luke, that was Clint(Osage Outlaw) that took on that tree. If he doesn't reply to this thread try sending him a PM.

I think he was in the 120-130 range.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

That was me.  The total was 109 and 6 billets but I sinew backed one of the billets and got a short hunting bow so I guess 110 is the actual number.  Keenan won the guessing contest.  I sent him a stave with a hole in it.  The wood from this tree has been of very high quality so far.  I just got done working on a piece from it.  It is cooling off on my caul right now.

I was saying, it must be dusty, because my eyes were watering looking at all those staves.

Also, I emailed my wife that pic, and told her to think of that the next time she complained about my few seasoning staves.
