5"long, 1/2" tall at the back and almost flush at the front on a straight cut fletch, Bub

I like a traditional old English cut. 5 -5 1/2 " long 3/4" at the back flush to the shaft at the front.

My thoughts ...if an arrow is bare shaft tuned and hits the target any size will make the arrow fly better. So mine are shorter now than when I started but still about 4.5

that depends on what the arrows are used for... if they are flight arrows make them short and bulb like if the are hunting arrows make them about 4.5 to 5 inches long.  if the bow is recurved parabolics always work really well if its a longbow leave the fletching square.  it always works for me when i follow those rules

3",4" or 5". It doesnt really matter much if you have the right arrow.

I hear ya bub. I have my favorites to. Last summer I did alot of fletching experimenting with ft's and broadheads. I got good flight right down to 3" feathers trimmed 1/2" tall on 29" arrows. I like 4 or 5 inchers because its easier for me to see in flight.

I make mine shorter than the brace height of the bow I intend to shoot from.
