New Flatbow and new Snow!
« on: December 08, 2012, 03:16:46 pm »
Here's a new one. For now its my new favorite, that'll probably change in a few weeks tho ;D This was a breeze to make. I feel kinda stupid though, a week ago (when i started it) i was on a backset-handle whim and looked at this piece and thought i saw more of a gullwing in it than there was. Pretty much, i used the deflexed side to start the bow. (it started with 1" deflex.) I tried to take the set out by heat treating and it worked somewhat but it still has about two inches of set. Oh well. It shoots real smooth. It's also one of my longest bows  ::)

Serviceberry
60" TtT
75# @ 27"

Since it's longer than my others i tried to get more draw out of it. Stained with some nice stuff i got at Ace.

Looks good. Are you going to break in that heavy bow with some hunting or what?

Thanks, i dunno yet. Maybe when i learn to hit something i'll try  :-\ For now i'm thinking about practicing on Quail though, i heard they taste ok. I think it would really suck to hit a deer and not make a kill shot  :-[

Nice one, obviously one of yours, you really got your own distinctive style. And I like it, too  :-*
Great work. With that hard a bend, I guess 2 inches of set is real good.
Don't shoot!

Nice bow Zion. Looks like you got the most out of that piece of wood. I can see the set back in the handle on the full draw pic.
You have those limbs bending real well and that set is nothing to be concerned about if it shoots nice. Keep posting them, I like
seeing your bows.

I agree. Very well done!

Thanks guys. I'm sure all you guys know what i'm saying when a bow kinda tillers itself out. Makes it a blast to make!

Good job on that one too! You build a great all purpose hunting weapon! I like your style! When I see that blue winter sky it makes me long for those blue Montana skies. Your weather in Eastern Washington is very similar to Montana. Over here on the west side of the mountains you don't see much blue sky in the winter. I digress, Anyway Zion, Another job well done!    Dale

Heat treating wont help if the bow is over stressed thus why you still got a lot of set. Great tiller on this one though. How high is the brace height?

Don't sweat on the set, that's a good draw and decent poundage from a 60" TtT. Especially as the grip section is reasonably long.
I'd rather have a sweet shooter with some set than a smashed bow that had bags of reflex.
Nice tiller and I like the clean simple lines.
