I noticed some of you guys use Oceanspray for bows. What is a good thickness limb for making a bow......?

Umm.. I'm not sure but 1 1/2 wide will get yah a nice 55# bow

Ocean spray is the tuffest wood i ever did see. I made a 65# bow from a shoot one 3/4 of an inch. You can make a 60# bow from stuff even smaller than that. A good bow can be made from a piece half an inch, im sure. Dont gotta worry about width with this stuff.

Mmmmm sounds like some real tough stuff. Good to know. do you know any other history about it like does it dry out with age..? does take on more set with age..?.......etc........etc.....

It takes a long time to season, it seems. about a year will be good if it's left whole with bark on. Doesn't seem to take set over time. It heat treats well, but it's best to heat treat after its done seasoning because if not it'll split like crazy. Also, the tension is seriously strong on it so you can make some pretty cool bows.

splits very easily during drying. Cut in winter , seal well and dry very slowly. also great for arrows and darts.

But that small it's like holding a toothpick. That's why I say a little bigger is nice :)
