Hickory Longbow

So this was one of my first bows, and is still my favorite for shooting to this day. it is a hickory longbow, 68 inches in length, about 2 inches wide for most of its length. i was going for a "Meare Heath, but shorter" style. it has about a 1/4 to a half inch of string follow, and clocks in at 57 pounds at 29 inches. it is incredibly fast for its draw weight, and has very little hand shock even with the "dainty" handle on it. if you would like any other info, please leave it with your comment. as always, comments are welcome and encouraged! brace picture and unstrung picture tomorrow.

yeah, its sturdy alright, this one's been dropped from a treestand while braced! not a scratch, no damage. and meare heath is just about my favorite design for whitewoods. its fast, efficient, and strain mitigating.

twilightandmist,  I'm going to take you up on your invitation for questions, I have a couple. If a person were going to make a 70-72" meare heath would you suggest hickory over ash or hackberry? also, the handle area looks short, less than 8" inches, is that correct?

I dont have much experience with ash, and none with hackberry, but hickory is an absolute champ for this design. i would say it is possibly the best wood for this particular version of the design. as for the handle, it is a 4 inch static hourglass, which widens to full width quickly rather than a long graceful flow from the handle to the fades. the fades themselves flow directly into the handle, so it slopes gently from one fade to the other.
