"Molly The Impaler"
« on: December 05, 2012, 06:19:18 pm »
Vlad The III from the house of Dracul was nicknamed "Vlad The Impaler" for his cruel punishment upon his enemies(fact),and his wifes name was Molly and this was her bow(fiction)...lol

Seriously tho this stave was deemed for the "firepile" by my buddies Jon(straightarrow) and Bill(hickorybill)back when we cut this lot of hedge a year and half ago. I took it with me to maybe, just maybe, one day fling some arras with it. Well guess what, that day has come and I got it flinging arras. It had three live branches sticking out of it when it was cut n split. I removed one thats in the working limb top limb and drilled it out for a 3/4" hole in the bow. The skewer in the middle is in the handle, and the skewer in the lower limb is actually a part of the  lever. I only chased a ring over the working limbs and left all the sapwood on the levers and in the handle. The handle also has such a steep concavity to it,and with the skewers(knots) that it was actually best and easiest to lay out this stave as a molly and sapwood levers and handle. This bow is straight up wicked looking,i love it. Its more of a novelty bow,and made for the sake of overcoming such a flawed character stave, and to prove Jon n Bill wrong >:D I probably wont shoot it much, altho it does spit an arra purtty darn quick despite that lower skewer looking all fat and nasty heavy. It does have a small noisy vibration to it because no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get that bottom limb to weigh the same as the top and be balanced because of that branch, but i wouldnt call it handshock. Its 64"ntn,50@28",24 oz mass weight, jibarillo tip overlays. Enjoy the nastiness  >:D

and one for the sky

thanks for looking...Chris

If ever I become enough of a bowyer to create such a thing, ...I shall be most proud!  Though she's as ugly as homemade sin, there's just something extra special about her.  Is there any such thing as a piece of osage that you cannot turn into a functioning bow?

That is too cool. Although looking at the direction of those spikes, it looks like you have the bow upside down. The bow gods might be mad.  ;)

Dude, you could reduce mass by removing those spikes.  It would make your bow faster.   >:D >:D >:D Just kidding. That would be lame.
