Osage limb bow (made meat this mornin)

Heres a few pics of one Ive been workin off and on for the last couple of months. It was a 2" diameter limb that came out of the top of a pretty good size osage tree. I usually throw limbs that size in the fire but I had a hankerin to build an osage bow with sapwood and heartwood in it and it looked like a good candidate. It took a few different heat sessions to get this thing halfway straightened out. I was hoping for 1/2 sapwood and 1/2 heartwood but I scraped the belly flatter than I meant to and ended up with mostly sapwood. It does still have a nice contrast down the belly though. Started with 2.5" reflex and still holds 1.5" reflex after shooting. I know the tiller isnt perfect but it draws and shoots great and I got tired of fighting with it. Specs: 60" long and 55# at 28". Thanks for looking.

Nice looking limb bow Okie. Done a couple myself  from osage but never with sapwood left on, I agree that contrast between heart and sap looks really nice. You got some good draw weight out of it also. I like it, real nice job.

Nice work, good idea to challenge yourself to a limb bow. Tiller is fine. There is no perfect tiller - the better I get a tillering, the better my eye for flaws becomes. Great looking bow and good hunting size and draw.

Great looking bow! Is it just me but do these osage bows that have sapwood backs look kinda like a yew bow..?

This is one of my most favorite bow styles. Ever since I read about "Limbows" in an old Primitive Archer Magazine. Sonny Imans from Ohio was the king of the limbow. I have built a few "pole" bows(sucker growth) and am amazed what you can do with a 2" diameter piece of osage, sapwood and all.
 You did a very nice job with this bow, Okie. Don't you think the Native Americans prefered 2" suckers and branches over 18" diameter trees!  ;)
