For the love of Yew
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:34:45 pm »
This is a lumpy bumpy Yew character bow 66" Tip to tip and 48 lbs. @ 28"  with Zebra wood tips. These type of staves can be a real challenge to work but also very rewarding when everything comes together.

Awesome Keenan...it looks like a great reason why yew is one of the "superior" bow woods ;)

Looking forward to seeing that all finished up Keenan. That has to be one of those that you mentioned as having similar character to the buckthorn bow I'm struggling to make. Get that baby posted soon, can't wait to see more of it.

Man that is a beautiful bow.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."

Yew are sooo right Keenan! The yew longbow I started building at the Tenn. Classic (and finished at home) / from the billets I got from Brock / and that Mike M. helped me W splice....cracked down the limb from the bottom of the splice.

It was a terrible heart breaker. I had shot it hundreds of times (I couldn't put it down). I think it could have been caused by our extremely hot / dry summer here in Missouri.

I will definitely have another one day...it was an amazing wood. Thanks for sharing posts of your bows, they are always an inspiration.
