Helped someone make a molly
« on: January 16, 2013, 01:43:13 am »
I just helped a young boy make his very first bow. It was made of white oak board, and it was 1.5 inches at the fades. The total length of the bow is 56" ttt and has relatively thin tips. The bow is probably 15-20 lbs at 24 inches. The lever limb ratio is 40/60 and the handle is bendy. He is very proud of it and cant wait to put a finish on it. This is my first opportunity to work a molly and im very impressed. I will post pictures of the bow and his smiling face when we finish it.

i also wanted to add that this bow has taken no more than 1 inch of set. i was impressed considering the molly design and the board, and it hasn't been heat treated and hasn't been reflexed

Nice going Muffin, helping that boy build his first bow. Did a couple of my first white oaks not long ago and was impressed at what can be
done with the wood. Looking forward to seeing pics of your bow. :)

ill be posting pics probably next week of the bend and such. I wont have fully finished pics for a while just because he will be doing the finish. I had him take it home and told him to sand it evenly by hand with finer grits once hes gotten it sanded.
