2 scalloped bows. Iroquois versus Potawatomi.

Here is two of my scalloped native american bows.
Iroquois. Ash. 55" ntn. 35#-24" childs bow but a nice target shooter. Brown leather dye. Black scallops with red marks.












Potawatomi. 54" ntn. 65#-24" Ash. Green and orange scallops. Made from a drawing in "Encyclopedia of native american bows........" by Steve Allely.

Very nice work!  Are the scallops purely decoration or was there a reason the Native Americans used them?  I really like the look of that style of bow.

These are my types of bows. Im getting more into these shorter native designs.

How difficult is it to tiller with the scalloped edges?


Tangential fletched arrows? 2 whole feathers it looks like. How well do they fly?

Tried shooting with pinch grip instinctive style? Seems like the short draws are good for that type of shooting.

Sorry for all the questions  . Just really liking the bows.

I think it's not difficult to tiller those bows. The bows are made from a board of ash. Straight rings.  3 feathers. The arrows go straight. They make sounds. Svisjjjjj......

Nicely executed,and "crescent moon" shape  tiller...now all they need is some dings,mud,n blood to be authentic

Can I ask you, did you come up with that upper stringing nock on the first bow, or is that traditional? I was thinking of trying something like that out lately, but had never seen a nock like that until you posted these bows. Beautiful bows though. Gorgeous.
