I saw a doe and a fawn last night, could have hammered the fawn but didnt feel like it. Them big doe sure are smart, seems like they have a sixth scence or something she just hung out for like a hour just out of range in the brush acting like she knew some thing wasnt quite right. :P They never spooked but she just wouldnt give me the shot I needed. :-\ Oh well thats huntin. :)

I had 3 bucks come in the other morning....5 minutes after it started pouring rain. I couldn't to risk a shot.

Last night, I hunted a spot that I just put a stand in 2 days ago. A young 6 point came in behind me and caught me off guard. I slowly stood up and as I pushed my seat back it squeaked. He went on alert and walked around me. He stopped broadside at 15 yards, and I tried a shot. As I knew would happen, he ducked the arrow...

I watched 2 little bucks sparring the other morning at 45 yards, and I had a monster come by my stand last week before it was light enough to ethically shoot due to overcast. I could just make out his silouette and those big, shiny horns....

I have seen more bucks so far this year than all of last year, and I am having a big old time!!---without the work of gutting or dragging!!!

Just retillered a 62" sinew backed osage bow down to 54 pounds.  I plan on using it in the LBL hunt.  Rain in coming in for this afternoon and all of tomorrow.  Hopefully it will clear up by Saturday so Heather and I can get out hunting.

If John has more calendars I'll make sure to snag a stack. >:D

Cool, Glenn. I can always use a new calendar for the workshop! ;D

We had a good rain last night and this morning, so hopefully the woods won't be quite so noisy....

I saw a small buck working scrapes last night, he wouldnt come close enough for a shot, I'm not sure if he was legal anyways. This hot weather sucks. The deer dont move untill right before dark.

I am really bummed out about this. Was out back in the lower 40, (two acers in back of the house) and in my ground blind. Two does came out to feed at about 5:45. That is about 1 hr and 30 min before total darkness. Well the smaller one was  in at about 15 yards and I popped up and took an instinctive  broadside shot. I thought it looked like a good hit, little low, but there. She jumped and did a 180 and went down toward the creek. I waited about 20 min. and went to get my arrow. The tip was missing a very small piece of it and there was a very small amount of blood on the white cock feather.  I looked for blood and found a small amount and trailed it for about 40 yards and it stopped. I did a search pattern all the way down the hill, about 100 yards, and could not find any trace of the deer. I retraced my steps and did another search and keep it up with lights till 9:10 pm. Of course it rained last night and we have not had rain in over 10 months. Well me and the boys, my two dogs went out this morning and looked for another 3 1/2 hours. No luck. All I can guess is the hit was not fatal and hope she is not laying out there some where. I sure do not want to come across her in a few months as a carcass. This is the first deer in 50 years of hunting I could not recover. I am bummed out.  :'( There are plenty of deer here and I have a lot of time to get some, but ----------------!!!!!!!!!!

Dick if you did your best to recover the deer that is all anyone can expect.
Bound to happen sooner or later, sad when it does though.
If she is lying dead somewhere she will feed the birds and beasts so not a complete waste.

Well DanaM, I'm with you on that but it is still hard. The photo shows the two Does. The one furthest away is the one I shot at. The blind is between the two trees with the netting. It's 6:45am and I guess the boys and I will give it another try. I will do a little still hunting. The ground is very quiet right now. Maybe if we find her I can still save the hide and feet if she is out there. I was so looking forward to those steaks etc. Well there is always tonight and tomorrow morning. Got permission, he actually begged me to hunt the area, to get a few off of his property. Nice area and great for bows. Lot of hard wood and wide open. Next shot I will aim a "little" higher.  ;)

so haven't been out in a few days. Keep an eye open for ravens and vultures if shes down they will find it.

Good point. Canopy is heavy but will still be on the lookout.

The deer moved earlier than expected tonight.... 'round 4:45 had a spike and a button buck come down the river bank on the opposite side from me, just behind my stand. They drank from the river and acted as if they'd cross 60 yards upriver from me but next thing I knew they were back on the sandbar across the river.
Just after those two disappeared three does (two mature and this years) came through in front of me, close enough to shoot but moving along a little too quickly. I whistled  and saw the lead deer stop but didn't have a shot as she was behind some branches. Still pretty darned exciting !!

Dick: I wouldn't get too bummed about that, though sounds like youv'e had a good long standing record. Eventually it happens to all us (hunters) - if ya do your best to no avail, all the little critters reap the rewards - dust to dust.
When you come upon a track or trail you do not know, follow it to the point of knowing.
