carvings on fades
« on: October 02, 2007, 01:51:43 pm »
I used to belong to this message board a long time ago and this is my first post back! Hello everybody!
My question:
I remember seeing folks do carvings on the fades of a bow right above or below the handle. Does anybody do this or have any pictures of this? I was very impressed by these and would like to try it.

The issue I'm thinking of is Summer 2001. The article is called "the Pleasure of Process" by John Sturtevant
He carves Wood Spirits in the fades and thier incredible looking.

I remember I have seen some of those on the ferrets homepage. there was a collection of "awesome wooden bows" and I saw some snakeheads etc in there. truly amazing.

At my age I should not be surprised at anything I see anymore. As Greg said, "INCREDABLE   :o. What a way to sign your bows forever. Fact is you would never run out of subjects to carve.

If you use the drop down box in that link that medicinewheel posted there are 29 pages of pictures of neat wooden bows. If you click on any thunmbnail it will enlarge and you can read the text about each bow.
