Almost a nice point
« on: November 12, 2012, 03:43:47 pm »
Following in Gun Doc's footsteps, I almost got a nice thin point.  The spall was pretty thin and I was a little curious to see if I could keep from breaking the base where it was extremely thin.  I did lose a quarter inch or so on the base, but other than that everything went well.  There's a touch of curvature, the symmetry is a little off and there's a little place in the center on one side I couldn't get flakes to run.  When I broke it punch notching after stalling a notch, I was a little disgusted.  But, it's superglued back together so Mary can put it on a wind chime.  Too bad I'll have to dull it, it's sharp as heck now.

Shux, didn't focus that last one too well.  O well, it was fun.

No it isn't.  I'm waiting for the post Thanksgiving roaster sales before I start heat treating.  It is heat treated rock though that I got from Patrick a couple years ago.
