Hardwood shafts
« on: November 09, 2012, 05:50:54 pm »
In making hardwood shafts, I'm finding that I can use less spine with those than softwoods. For example...I'm shooting a 60 lb longbow...and need 55-60 lb softwoods...but need only 45-50 lbs in hardwoods. Go figure. I think they recover more quickly.  (When I use a 60 lb hardwood, it's overspined and doesn't fly straight).

So... you have some to trade, or you're sharing an observation, or...?

Darn shaft teasers.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Taper the rear 10" to 5/16 of the hardwood shafts and they will be more weight tollerent. It is easy to do on a home made tapering jig and an electric drill.

Well yes I do have quite a few different woods that I can 'trade' if anyone is interested. I make them in maple, teak, leopardwood, mahogany, Brazilian cherry, 23/64 sitka spruce...etc. I can be contacted at kf571_2000@yahoo.com.

OK. I just wondered... cuz you posted your 'observation' in the trading post, but didn't offer anything for trade. Can you post some pics?
