Finally caught up with another this year. It has been a really rough season with all the deer run outa my area. I was finally able to take advantage of the doe season and get another.
It was just about quitting time when I could hear them coming through leaves. This one and another crossed under the fence and passed about 8 or 9 yards. By the time I got zero'd in, she was already passed me a bit and left me with a quartering away shot. I shot her with my Ugly Hackberry bow, cane arrow with a hardwood foreshaft and a FL chert point. I heard the arrow hit but couldn't see my dark Osceola fletches so I couldn't be 100% sure of the shot. I heard her run a big circle around me. the noise slowed and eventually stopped but there was no crash. I waited a while and then picked up blood quick. Seemed to be plenty of good blood on both sides of the trail so I knew it was out both sides. Found the back half of the arrow after about 70 yards. shortly after the blood dried up oddly enough. there had been lots of blood on the ground and the arrow smelled good, no stomach contents, but I decided to back out until morning just to be sure. Found her the next morning in about 10 minutes. I hit a little further back than I wanted even for quartering away. I missed the 1st lung by about an inch, center punched the liver and hit the opposite lung and exited low behind the opposite shoulder. I would have found her if I would have pushed but decided to play it safe. Better safe than sorry. All worked out in the end tho! After the circle she ran she went down only 60-ish yards from where I shot her. I can breath a sigh of relief now that I have some more meat this year.
