boo backed epe redux
« on: November 02, 2012, 05:49:39 pm »
this is a bow that had some problems, started out 72" ttt, lifted a sliver at the nock and had a partial delam on the other end, so i figured what the heck worked some glue into the partial delam and wrapped it up, after a week i cut both ends off, sanded the backing flat on the ends and glued on some walnut, shaped the reflex in and glued on tip overlays, started out 60#@29" and after retillering it's 63" ntn and 74#@29", hope ya like her, Bub

I like it.

And what I like most is the strife.

The agony of defeat...

And the glory of victory!

A battle hard fought is something to be cherished.
You're gonna remember this one...

That sure is some draw weight :o what is your ratio of ipe to boo on the working part of the Limbs? I have got 1 I've been want to start working on with just a sliver a bamboo on the back... makes me a little nervous that small amount that I have
Is this bow making a sickness? or the cure...

Nice save, Bub!! ;)

thank's guy's yeah the thrill of victory, defeat blows
soy it's 1 1/8" wide most of the wat tapers to 1/2" or so, epe at the fades 7/16" at just below where i flatened the boo 1/4" and the boo averages 1/8" or under, the wraps are on it because i had a questionable spot on the boo and it needed a wrap for piece of mind and i put the rest on to balance out the look, Bub

I gotta say this made me laugh out loud.

I am not fond stories that start with a 6" osage log, a boring ole ring chase and 66", safe, long bow.
Break more bows, screw up more often and then make better bows.

Wow Bub, that'd be a great bow if you tried to make it at the beginning...doubly great to recover to it.  You're the real deal, I could not get that back.  Good luck keeping an arrow in a deer out of that bow. ;)

Bub, That looks like a winner. Any advise on the build as I'll be starting several bows for the grandkids using the boo back Ipe.
Thanks Graylan

sharpend glad i made ya laugh
george this bow is pretty close to the max on my draw weight
you got that right rich, i've seen 4x4 blacktail here that went 100#
rog all ya need is tb2 or 3, whatever you got
your right balckhawk, it shoot nice and smooth before but spits an arrow a hell of a lot faster now, Bub

Nice save bub, thats a pretty wood/boo color contrast and the bend is fantastic. I didn't see her at 72" long but gonna say I like her much better at 63" ntn. Imo 72" is to long unless your going to war with someone at the other end of the block, if it's war with the guy next door 63" will be fine at that distance. :)
