Trying to waterproof hide glue...
« on: November 02, 2012, 01:10:58 pm »
I am trying to waterproof hide glue and have already tried various formulas that I have found on line which gave me limited success. They either weakened the adhesion of the glue or only worked to to make the stuff somewhat water resistent, but not at all waterproof. Now I am actually thinking about getting some formaldehyde which I here will do the job, either by exposing the backing to the fumes in an enclosed area or by putting some into the mix. From what I here this will in fact make it impervious to water. Does anyone have experience with this or have any thoughts about the matter?

well first what are you using the hide glue for? i assume a sinew or rawhide backing? if so i would just put a snakeskin and a good finish on it and wax it up good before the rain
PRIMITIVE ARCHERY what other way can you play with sticks and rocks all day and not look like a little kid

Every time i shoot at a bunny i recall the wise words of Elmer Fudd "I've got you now you waskally wabbit!"
