DIY finger savers?
« on: October 30, 2012, 12:55:43 am »
I looked up ways to protect my fingers a little, since I've been doing raw for a while and it's not working out, and found gloves, tabs, and finger savers. Out of the options, I'd say finger savers fits me the most. Convenient, and fps isn't a big deal for me since I just target shoot.

I'd rather order something online S/H + markup, for something which is essentially 2 small pieces of rubber. There was a post that says silicone tubing works, but haven't found any other info on it scouring Google. Any thoughts/experience on silicone tubing?

Duct tape
The kids around here just wrap duct tape around their string
They split it to width first
It works kinda like the no-gloves but not so rugged!
Have fun

Also, a 3 ply string can be easier on your fingers too.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."

Nothing wrong with a homemade tab.

Quick, cheap and easy.
If ya lose one or need a spare just whip one up.

You can cause very permanent damage to your digits without proper protection.

I made a finger tab for myself But have only used it a handful of times... I find other things to be cumbersome and in the way... so unless is a very high poundage I just calloused up and I feel I have more control that way ;)
Is this bow making a sickness? or the cure...

I use a three finger glove.  And even with that I'll sometimes get a tingle in my finger tips, usually the ring finger.  So I take a break for a bit.

Funny thing I shot a compound bow at an archery shop about a year ago and I used a release.  For about three months my middle finger was numb after that.  Don't know why that happened.

Maybe I need to evaluate my grip maybe I'm pulling to hard with one finger over the others.

Long term, skin isnt the issue.

It is nerve damage. You can also damage the pulleys in your fingers.

Occasionally will be okay but if you shoot several hundred arrows a week you could be asking for trouble.

I use athletic tape around my 3 drawing fingers. It works pretty well. Plus you can get the tape in different colors ;D

I like the finger savers for kids, as the last thing I want today when introducing them to a bow, is for them to associate it with pain.  Don't give up on a simple fingertab.  They can seem cumbersome if you are not used to them, but I have got to the point where I forget it is even on and I will wear it around the shop between shooting rounds.  It just flips out of the way when you need to use your fingers, but is right there when you go to draw an arrow.  I cut mine from 7/8oz veg tan leather.
