5/16" red oak dowels

The Lowes by my house sells 5/16 red oak dowels. Pretty good weight to them and I was thinking about trying to make some hunting arrows with them. Anybody have any luck using these with broadheads?

They should work fine just be sure to get good, straight grain.

I use 3/8" oak and they are usually the right spine. :) But that could have something to do with it being a 90 pound bow! :)

I've had good luck with them provided there isn't grain runoff.  I haven't tried broadheads, but field points and blunts work well.

i've used them with great success, including broadheads, but i prefer 3/8" poplar, tighter grain and and i still get a good heavy arrow, Bub
