78" osage ELB (Finished)

Have a request on the books for an osage war bow type ELB in moderate weight (80 @ 30).  It started as an exceptional 7 foot stave with natural backset.



Right now it is 78" NTN 1 1/4" wide and 1" thick at the handle, 78# @ 29 and gains 4#/inch in draw. He also requested that it be able to pull to 32" - Druid where are you when I need a superhuman draw? It retains some backset though it has not spent much time at 32" draw yet.









A few small pin knots and one larger but solid knot about mid lower limb.

He is "full" draw with me straining to get maybe 28" of it - the arrow is 33" BOP.



11/04/12 completed: Added hemp handle (leather build-up on back), beeswax finish, stringer nock. Set includes spare string, stringer, arrows (33" BOP 825 grn w/ goose fletch)



Retains some backset (side view)



FF strings, cup and loop stringer, Ace 200 grn points



Top stringer nock

Druid - I never weighed a bow before, but just for you I dug out a food scale. The bow weighs 810 grams (that's just over 1 3/4 pounds on this side of the pond). Osage is very dense wood with specific gravity of 0.80. Love the way these long limbs shoot a heavy arrow, wish I could pull it farther.

Good looking bow. I find great beauty in the most simple bows. Is there much handshock due to the uniformity width of the limbs?
