Bark On Hazel Primitive + link to video
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:25:46 am »
64" tip to tip 40# at 28" Antler tip overlays and arrow plate.
Small hole in upper limb (The hole was from an Osage stave, shipped over from the US specially by JW  ;) )
Bark lightly wire brushed and given a good dose of linseed oil then bees wax polish.
Whole bow done in bees wax. I'm hoping the bark will stay on, but only time will tell. You have to be carefull to put it down belly side up else you can't find the darned thing in the woods.
There was a fair bit of natural twist to the stave but I just went with the flow.
She shoots straight and true about 150fps average, best reliable reading I got was 154. I think the 436fps I got on one shot may have been a slight error O:)
Here's the pics

Here's a link to the video.

Hope you like her

Nice job, Del. I really like the looks of those with bark on them. Hope it stays for you!

Nice bow Dell  8)
Rekon you might have more chance of the bark staying on with a slopping of varnish but time will tell :)

No stress cracks yet, but who knows. In our relatively humid climate over here it might be ok with regular waxing.

Yeah, but that's 'cos it shrunk due to depressurisation in the hold on the flight over over :o O:)

Very cool bow Del, the backing looks sweet! I might try that on my next chokecherry bow, I think the bark will hold quite well.  The tiller on that beauty looks very ELB-ish.
