Crocheted Longbow Handles?

Anybody got a pattern for a simple crocheted longbow handle, like these?:

that is too cool Daniel.go to the fabric store and look for books on crochet for the beginner.it will teach you the stitching.then come up with your own pattern.you have talent and i know you can do it.

..hehe, I was actually trying to con the woman of the house into giving it a go... I am sure I don't have the patience for anything like that,  .

I don't know anything about crochet(or croquet for that matter so I could be wrong), but that photo looks like what the English call a braided handle. As far as I know they just buy readymade stuff from a fabric store, and wrap it on, to a base of glue.
Looks pretty darn fancy(in a good way).

That's easy to do all it is is a double stitch and what looks like either a fabric or sewn edges.i crochet a lot well I use to if you want to do something like this just learn the basics single and double stich make a rectangle the you can whipstitch it to the handle an then do the fancy wrap it's super easy

Isn't that just fancy braid wrapped around?
Do you really want something like that on an ELB? It's a bit twee and Victorian for my taste, maybe you'll be wanting doilies to stand you beer on on next
But seriously, a search for 'wide flat braid' brought up some interesting looking stuff.

It also occurred to me how that pretty thing would look after just 1 shooting session here in July in Texas.  Wouldn't be as pretty I'm afraid.

I have an English  long bow I purchased from Val Rawnsley about thirty years ago that had a wrap almost identical to the one on the inset picture except green and gold. It was very comfortable to hold but I shoot a lot and it only lasted a couple years, and replaced it with cord. I still have the bow and will look into replicating the original wrap. Thank you for bringing this up, and thank you fellows for the ideas!!

The longevity of a crochet handle wrap depends on what material it is made from. the one in the pic looks to be wool or synthetic wool it would last for a few years.  my quiver strap is a double crochet wool strap and it's going on its third year with no signs of breaking. George is right  it will stain quickly if you use a light color but a dark color should look good after long use. The cool thing about this is yarn is really cheap and in under 10 minuets you can make a new handle and have it mounted back on the bow if anyone wants me to make a build along on making a crochet handle wrap I can and no it's not girly if a man can crochet it really can come in handy you can crochet nets "thatcher", or even small game bags like the one I made Kerry Brinkly for his squirrel   hunting it was made from flax twine

WOO, PLEASE DO!  I don't think it's girly at all to crochet, (well, maybe a little,  hehe) I am just sure it would take me a while to get it even looking half as nice as they do in that picture.

Il make a build along on crotcheting and include a handle wrap its super easy just think of making a coiled rope that can undo itself when pulled. I actually made my  first hook from a stick before I bought my other hooks
