1st osage bow and i need some hep!
« on: October 12, 2012, 02:17:02 pm »
hey guys i started working on my first osage bow the other day and i failed to chase a solid ring because they were really close together and it was difficult following one all the way down the back.  what would be the best backings to apply to this bow.  its 60in ttt and going to be around 50-60#@29"  thanks!!!

Well, I would first ask if you're making a stiff handle or a bendy handle?  A 60" stiff handled bow at those weights and draw length is gonna require very skillful tillering to avoid set.  I'd go sinew for sure if that's your plan, but even then it's gonna take good tillering.  If you go bendy handle (and I think you should) then it isn't nearly as critical and most any backing would work.  I'd recommend rawhide, the thinnest you can find.

Good luck,
