Third Annual Camp Marymount Knap-In and Native Arts Festival will be held the weekend of October 5-7 2012
There will be flint knappers from several states attending demonstrating the art of fashioning arrowheads, spears and knives of various stones, selling their artwork, and selling both tools and raw materials. In addition, there will be some folks demonstrating the use of spear throwers, called atlatls, which preceded the use of the bow and arrow in Tennessee.  There will also be a man showing ho Native Americans used plants and plant fibers, and another man who sets up a primitive forge.  There will also be demonstartions of hide preparation, and probably a potter or two showing how clay was used to form pottery vessels.  School groups will be invited to attend, and Marymount Nature Center will be open to the public.  The event is open to the public at no charge, and a small vedors' fee ($10) is charged for those selling to the public.  There will be an auction of various items to benefit Camp Marymount at noon on Sunday.  A book vendor and authenticator will be present.
