Bow No. 3 - Kid's "Blackfoot"-themed ash bow
« on: September 27, 2012, 03:26:56 pm »
Hi guys

Having made a bow for my eldest boy, I reckoned my younger son deserved one too.  Targeting his seventh birthday, I headed off and harvested some ash (what else?  I have few other choices here).  The resulting stave had some character (knots & bends), but after reducing it and allowing some time for it to dry I had a go.  When it came to dressing the bow up, I went for a Blackfoot theme (after a bow I saw in one of the volumes of TTBB) although the bow is far from an accurate copy.  I just wanted a link to Montana, 'cos the little guy's great-grandmother grew up there.

Made it to the finishing line the day before he turned seven and he was delighted with the result.  It's rough and ready with a bucketload of flaws, but he's happy so I am too.  Thanks for all the inspiration!

25# @ 20" (perhaps a tad too heavy for him)

Ash
Leather handle-wrap
Horsehair and antler decoration.

Man that there is something.....real nice decorations but man that full draw is perfect. He'll grow into it, in the meantime he can do some short strokin.....that's a great bow.

That "custom" bow beats the heck out of one of them assembly line jobs. I'm sure he knows how special it is. What a great job, Dad!! :)
