need help reflexing mongol bow
« on: September 24, 2007, 08:23:19 pm »
hey guys,

I have made a few self bows already but want to move on to a composite horn bow.

I saw pictures of composite bows online, but have no idea how they get the massive reflex. I would like to make mine as close to a mongolian bow as possible, so if anyone can tell me how to reflex the limbs it would be great.

Some of the reflex is induced by pulling the core forwards when gluing the horn on the belly. The rest is accuired by laying the sinew on and then tying the tips together untill it dries. At least that's how I understand it.

in a mongolian hornbow you use a riser on the back of the bow that is curved a little bit which induces setback.
reflex is not induced when glueing up the horn, but when allpying the sinew!
