This bow-to-be is pretty much an after thought. A couple weeks ago I was getting ready to work on an osage stave that was quartered last November. The stave was definitely wide enough to split in half and get two. However being a little paranoid about the possibility that something unforeseen might be waiting inside the log that would ruin both staves I elected to split a 'splinter ' off the side.
Long story short, the 'splinter' ended up a perfect little stave--barely an inch and a half wide, an inch and a quarter thick, and real straight. I couldn't bring myself to throw this scrap into the trash pile, especially since it looked like it was ready for a string. Anyway after cleaning up the back and spending an hour with a rasp it is already floor tillered nicely. 53" long, just over an inch wide, and barely tapers to an inch. I'm aiming for 24" draw and around 46-50#. Hope it works...
