I hear you there. Hes good at what he does, and on top of that hes a good teacher  and to go even farther, he can see very minute flaws in the wood i would have never seen! no wonder his bows are so well made

Ok guys, I know I am running out of time, but I now have the time after a few unexpected things came up to work on this exchange. I started, got half way through, and then had to stop. Back on full force and 100% confident I will make the deadline.

I am having a hard time choosing which one to build, so decided to mention all that I am building right now.

So, I have an osage stave mostly formed with a half inch hole in the midlimb and a 1/4 hole below it. It will have to be an elb profile if this bow is to be made as its only 1 inch wide to make my 45 lb minimum at 27 inches of draw. Will also probably wind up bending in the handle to relieve limb stress around the hole.

Second bow up is a slippery elm, pyramid style same stats, no character at all.

Last is an elm that I cannot ID, but smells like sugar water... wonderful sweet smell to it. It will have little character, a high crown, and again have the above stats.

So... thats what I have in the  works right now....

I spent 6 to 7 hours in the workshop yesterday trying the coax my gift out of a 4" dia bamboo.  The bamboo won the first round.  But I have a new stradegy for today, after a quick trip to the hardware store.
