First bow

Here is my first attempt at making a bow, it does not have the best tiller its stiff at the fades but I did learn a lot from it and it does shoot pretty well so overall I call it a success.  It was made from a Red Oak board and it is 66" ttt and draws 47# @ 28" it has fake copperhead skins on it and they turned out pretty well, I put several coats of poly over them and sanded between coats so they are nice and smooth, it also has a beaver tail grip.

I'd say you've done tremendously well for a first.  Worlds better than mine and you can recognize it being stiff out of the fades.  It's a keeper, congratulations!

Frist off Congrats on your first,very nice looking bow.Tiller don't look bad either,maybe a little stiff toward the fads and you stated but over all looks fine.Nice work. :)

Yeah, I was only pulling it about 26 inches or so, my daughter was taking the side shots and I was having to hold the pose and being used to shooting a wheelie bow so holding 47# for very long is something I have to get used too.

damn....if you can do that on your first attempt I'm really interested in seeing what your fifth one will be.  A nice turkish-style horn number, no doubt.

I'm working on a little ash recurve from a rake handle we will see how that goes.  I'm making the caul to bend the curves right now.  I have it roughed out and floor tillered so its ready to bend.  I will probably back it with brown paper to be on the safe side since its going to be pretty short and thin.  It is 55" ttt and will probably come in at about 30#.  Its for my daughter.
