Hickory backing - flat or vertical grain???
« on: September 20, 2007, 10:42:17 am »
Which is best? Right now i'm using kinda quarter-sawn at a bias grain...they seem to hold well, but is vertical grain better? Does it impart any extra power to the bow?

I prefer vertical and biased grain for backing. I feel it gives better zip over flat grain backings.    Pat

With flat sawn with ring run offs, you can get splinters or breaks, Former just happened to be adn was very annoying.
