Slugs on my bows.
« on: August 28, 2012, 01:25:07 am »
So about an hour ago I went outside to do a late night glue up, because  i figured i could let the glue set overnight and start working again tomorrow. I keep all my staves and tools under my house in an unfinished cellar next to my back deck so i can reach in, grab what a need, and get to work back outside.

I've never gone out after dark to work on my bows, so i just grabbed a little flashlight and took it down with me.

the weird thing was, when i reached into the cellar to grab a bow, i put my hand on what felt like a tiny slimy ball. I reeled back out of shock and started waving my flashlight around to see what it was, and there must have been upward of 50 slugs on that bow alone. i start looking around, and they're on EVERY piece of wood i own. Never seen anything like it. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

i live in eastern GA, just to.give a point of reference.

I don't think the slugs will hurt the bows other than slime them. They must be getting foodwise from the bows. Maybe mildew?
Where in Eastern GA do you live? I grew up in Savannah.

Huh, that's something.  My bows shoot like slugs.

Don't look down on the lowly slug, he's just a snail that's homeless.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Hmm... Slug skin backing. Interesting idea, it would probably be good camo

Hard to get glue to stick to those slimy things, Adam.
I love Tybee, LE. Did you happen to eat at the Breakfast Club?
Do you know any Mulharrens(sp) in Augusta. I think they are distant relations.

Just leave the sticky crap on and when you get ready to go hunting just lick it and roll it in the leaves, instant Camo.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

They look good on a bow but I don't skin the little ones.
