hafted ceramic blade
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:20:03 am »
I finally finished the knife I'm making for my youngest boy.  He found the ceramic plate piece in the creek out front here.  I had a deer bone from last years kill and asked him which way he thought it should be hafted and he said on the end w/ the slot already in it, the joint end.  So I filed the bone down, opened up the slot and mounted the blade.  I used pine pitch my oldest, 8, and I made last fall, sinew from last years deer maybe even the same one the bone came from, then I wrapped the handle in goat sinew from a goat I butchered a couple of years ago.  The butt end I might even be able to hold a spear if I get if whittled down enough to fit into the bone.  It's pretty darn sharp for a ceramic plate and I've got the ok to use it on the next animal we butcher, then I'm giving to my youngest, he's 5 now.  Hope you like it, and thanks for looking.  dpgratz

I like it ...simple, yet elegant.

Thanks Guys!  My boys are really into lithic tools right now, so there will hopfully be more on the way.  W/ hunting season and the cooler weather coming up I better get on it.  Thanks again, dp
