batch of arrows

I made a set of arrows for this bow:  http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,32411.30.html  , for shooting practice.

They are made of wayfaring tree shoots. I tried this wood for the first time, and I will definitely use it often from now on. Fletching is two white duck feathers and one northern goshawk for the outer feather. They're fitted with cowbone fieldpoints from the femur. Tread is cotton.

 28", 295 - 320 grains, spine 27 - 30.

Now I'll go shoot them, hooray!  ;D

tom: I scraped the goshawk from the sidewalk, it was roadkill. To do so is legal where I life, and so is the use of legally obtained animal parts (if the product is not sold). So no worries  8)

I really wouldn't be able to get half of the stuff I use if it weren't for roadkill. I'm still looking for the dead snakes, though.  ;D

Tom, that was my first thought, too.  But then I remembered Jodocus is from Switzerland. 

The goshawk feathers would be "big medicine" on arrows.  The young birds are known for their highly aggressive nature, often killing far more than they can eat.  Falconers have long considered the goshawk to be a bloody minded bird, very motivated to hunt hard and fast.  Their ability to fly unimpeded through the thickest cover is also legendary.  They've even been seen pursuing  ground prey on foot through the underbrush!

Yes, to see the goshawk dart trough the trees and brushes is most impressive, its beyond imagination how fast they go in densly obstructed spaces.
Sometimes they get a chicken that is their own size and try to eat it right in the yard cause they can't carry it away.  ;D  I've once seen one tear off a pigeons head in a swoop in midair, then catching the falling body in flight. Stunning hunters, really.

yeah, with sharper points they would certainly like to go hunting.

But while I can use the feathers, bowhunting is not legal here in any form.  :'( Pity about the "big medicine".

youngboyer2: The heads have a V-cut in the base and the shaft is glued in. I figured that the shaft would be more prone to splitting, but with the wrap this design holds up well, as long as you don't shoot at rocks.
