Tom, that was my first thought, too. But then I remembered Jodocus is from Switzerland.
The goshawk feathers would be "big medicine" on arrows. The young birds are known for their highly aggressive nature, often killing far more than they can eat. Falconers have long considered the goshawk to be a bloody minded bird, very motivated to hunt hard and fast. Their ability to fly unimpeded through the thickest cover is also legendary. They've even been seen pursuing ground prey on foot through the underbrush!
