Almost...
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:54:33 am »
Had a decent raw perd point going today out of a cobble.  I was cleaning the refrigerator in the shop and it was underfoot for some reason.  Got to a nice preform but I stopped the percussion thinning a little early trying to save width but it backfired as I had trouble driving flakes half way where the point was the widest.  Finally decided to knock a flute off each side to reduce thickness.  The first side went fine, but on the second one I broke it.  Too bad, it was a big point at over 3" long. :'(

Was good to get after it again.

Dadgumit! I hate it when that happens. Time to go in salvage mode.

That's a real bummer! I've been working some of that stuff lately and like it, but I've had to really step up my hits compared to other rock and had a couple breaks like that the other day.

I think I lost it Don.  I brought it in and showed it to the boys that have adopted us as grandparents.  I'm afraid it went home with them cause it isn't lying around the living room.  Not that I care, if they like it more power to them.  Hopefully I'll be able to get out and try again tonight.

Thanks guys.  I did a little better last night, only broke one before finishing 2.  I got one from the georgetown I got from you Paul.  It should have been larger but one edge had a flaw that got me a couple times.  I was afraid the concrete would be a problem but it wasn't.  Not that pretty but at 135 gr I think it'll hunt.

And odly, the concrete doesn't even show on the other side of the point?
