Tung Oil over dye?

I've used dye to add some colour to my latest project. It is just regular Rits dye, and I am happy with the result, but now I need to add some sort of clear coat to seal out moisture and add a bit of gloss. I have lots of tung oil and I was wondering if that makes for a nice finish over dye. Has anyone ever tried this or know of any reason not to try it? The dye colours are black and brown if that matters.

Yeah it'll be fine just don't try and rub it in too much on the first coat or two.

Cant say for sure over rite dye, but I liked the way tung oil worked over a vinegar/steel wool stain when first coated with several shellac coats.

If in doubt, try it on scrap.

I've used pure tung oil over natural water based walnut dye and had it run real bad. I just rubbed it in with the runny dye though, and it was fine. But it did make the dye run.
