Leave it or skin it???
« on: July 25, 2012, 09:08:00 pm »
This is one of the first  4 or 5 bows I built and had a bunch of problem areas...  knots, almost lost it when I thinned the handle to much so I had to make pistol grips for it. Well it developed a couple of small cracks on the back where the knots are so I put rawhide on it. I decided to experiment with it and try to make it look antique. I am giving It to a friend (his retirement party that was the antique idea as he is one) this weekend and wonder if I should leave it this way or put some skins on it??? He does not know I'm doing it......

What do you think???

Yeah I vote leave it. Not only does it look nice but if it's a hunter that looks like really good camo in those colors and that pattern.

I wouldn't cover up that artwork! After building a few bows I know that each one has some part that comes from your heart. That one has Coaster all over it. I wouldn't change a thing. He will be lucky to have it!

Looks kind of neat to me.  I'd say leave it.  Furthermore, I'd like to try something like that on a bow.
