A luggage, fish or bow scale attached to your string while the bow is on the tree should
show the weight. A scale or ruler in line with the point of draw will give the draw length.

My good advice to you is to get a scale before you start your next bow. You cant build your best bow without them. You can however build a bow without them.

Get an X-spot digital. They run about 40-50 bucks and are worth every nickle. You can get them at an good archery site.

If you're poor like me, and you're not building too many bows above 50#, buy a hanging scale at walmart. they're in the fishing section. Or you can do like someone else said on another post, and search around on ebay for one that goes up to 100#. Said he got it for under $10.

You could also use a bathroom scale and a tiller stick without notches cut in. But I'm with pearl drums. If you plan on making more bows get a good hanging scale. :)

Go to Good Will and get a bathroom scale like Will suggests. Don't get a digital though.

In the luggage isle at Warmart they have luggage scales that go to 70 or 80 #.  They cost about $10.

I got a real cheap one sold as a 'bagage scale' weighs up to 50 pounds from Poundland in the UK,... it only cost £1
It 's surprisinglt smooth ans accurate, I expect they are sold in the US too (made in China).
My big one goes up to 220 pounds got it online from a fishing site.
Have a look at my Bowyers Diary, there are plenty of pics and the search engine actually works, it's a free google blog site , so no annoying adds pop up! (just google Bowyers Diary)
