A Primitive Archer Sculpture+ FINISHED PICS!
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:37:51 am »
Dunno if this is really the right place to post but it seems appropriate.
I'm working on the sculpture in Yew to show the flow and movement of drawing a primitive bow.
The bow(s) are Yew pyramids, 8" long, haven't strung 'em yet ;D
When it's finished I'm hoping to enter in a big exhibition next year.
I did sketches and a cardboard model first, and I've taken a lot of trouble with the low hand position so it would actually all work with the bow strung and an arrow.
I'm sort of trying to capture the cave painting feel in 3D with added movement.
Hope you like him.
Del

That's cool as heck, Del.  8)  Great piece of art!!

Man that's awesome! I know there's not enough space but it would be neat to have one more position, braced but not drawn.  Than it would be like stop motion film. Way cool Del.

Ha! That's exactly what I'd planned! ;D
But once I'd made the cardboard model I could see it would end up looking like the goddess Shiva with loads of arms.
There is still some detailed work, like do I put the arrow into the low position too? There's also the possibility of adding maybe just one extra arm or one more bow, it doesn't necessarilly have to all add up. That's why some of it is just taped on at the moment.
It's good how viewing it at different angles gives some interesting effects.

Super nice work!  It's impressive how you've given a sense of motion to a stationary object.  Great job!

Awesome Del! I think you captured the motion perfectly. Does it stand balanced by itself or will you have to fasten it somehow to it's base?
