Well for bow making passing it on is the circle of life. We have 4 PA members helping four new bow makers today. This is the second session  for this group. Today they will finish their bows and shoot some arrows that we are also making with them. So the following are the instructors:

Scott-stringman
Josh-gun doc
Ed-beadman
Me, John- iowabow

I am going to post a few pictures here throughout the day. In the first picture scott shows how to make a tillering string.

John, that floor is way too clean for a bow building class. Good for you guys. Keep passing it on! I'll be having my camp-o-rama in a few weeks too.

I never thought of a storm lamp for straightening cane. That chimney sure concentrates the heat for you. I bet it works great!  8)

Kudos to you guys for passing on your skills. When I get some (skills, that is) I hope to follow suit and pass them on, too.

Boy howdy do I ever with JW was there too!  Yeah, and Bevan too, I guess. 

Looks like some pretty grim bowyers there!  Way to go guys.

While driving home last night I was reminded of how generous John was to set this up for these four guys. I was honored to be a part of it and I believe all four were really stoked to get there bows done, but my hats off to John for being such a giver! What we did yesterday won't be truly appreciated for quite some time. If even one of those guys get the "fever" it will all be worth it.

Thanks John, for goin the extra mile for the next generation!

Thanks Scott,  Ed, and Josh for taking the time to help these guys out. Scott can tiller a bow faster than anyone I have seen. Ed was a great help and gave each person a large rasp to build future bows with. Scott gave each bow builder a flint knife to skin their first deer with. Josh provided arrow making material. We did not get pictures of the last bow but it turned out great. After shooting the bows we had an atlatl competition and lets just say that Josh has an arm you dont want to go up against.

Most of the bows were about 50 # and fired in the 147 to 151 range with appropriately weighted arrows. I was very happy with how it all turned out.

  I bet they all get bit by the bug...I know Blackhawk took me under his wing around four or five months ago and I have made 10 bows since then.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this John.  I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it.  Your willingness to share your knowledge and encourage with those that want to learn is very gracious and noble of you.  I really enjoyed meeting up with Stringman and Beadman to.  Thanks for the nodule Scott!  Josh
