Hi Guys!

Here are some pics of my Spindlewood bow.
I had to repair a tiny crack in the upper limb, thats why i got the hemp wraps over linen cloth on it.
It is little over 61" ntn.





pulls 40#@28"



the back with lots of littke knots



Nocks





Handle out off sheep skin with the furr on it, wrapped in hemp cord







I have to harvest some more spindlewoof next spring for sure. For his 40# this bow is pretty fast im my humble oppinion.

Ver nice bow, Leo and great tiller. Do you know the specie name for this euonymus? We have lots of euonymus here(most exotic to us) and E. alatus, "burning bush" could probably make a bow.

thank for the Feedback. I still wasnt sure on the tiller, this was my first D-bow.

Pat B, this is Euonymus europaeus, known as common or european spindlewood. Though it is not rare where i live it still is hard to find a piece long enough for a bow.

I'm making a sinew backed spindle bow at the moment. You say it isn't rare near you - you are lucky! I think this is one of the best/nicest to work woods out there and boy does it polish up well. Somebody told me it is used as an ivory subsitute because of the way it will polish up. Did your bow take much set? I think this wood is very elastic.

Hi Mikekeswick,

it took almost no set, amazing. It had a bit of stringfollow wich would dissapear after lets say an hour or so. I diceded to temper the belly and the stringfollow is gone after the heat treathment. Looks right as it is on the unstrung pic after a 100 shots and being braced for 3 hours.
I didnt polish this one, never thought of trying on this wood...next time. I tried breaking a piece of spindle one day, i realy hurt myself as it finaly broke with a loud BANG, this stuff is very elastic and damn hard to break.

Looking forward on pics and your experience with the sinew backed spindle bow already ;)
