So, I started making a red oak pyramid bow for the father of a friend of mine who has this unhealthy relationship with compound bows. Today I overshot the tiller and ruined it. I refuse to give him anything short of perfect, since this will be his first experience with a real wood bow,  so I snapped it in half and nailed it to my "Tree of dead bows."

I've been thinking about using a stave from a persimmon tree I cut down to make a bow for myself, but I think I may use it to make a better quality bow for him.

My question is, does anyone have any ideas in terms of designing a good first bow for a middle aged man who's used to machines doing his work for him?
