Family member has passed
« on: June 22, 2012, 12:15:42 am »
My aunt, my mom's sister passed away yesterday. She was a sweet lady that lived a hard hard life and raised five wonderful kids. In 1980 we went to Mexico for the first time since coming to the US. We stayed with her and her family for a week. They lived in a rent house with a dirt floor. No fridge, no running water, and no electricity. In the main room there was a small hole in the ground that she covered with a small piece of lumber. She kept a "jarro" in that hole. It was a clay jug that held cool water. I remember her giving me water from that jarro and how cool and refreshing it was. It wasn't until I was older that I understood how hard of a life that must have been. Her husband was rather transient and couldn't keep a job and hence the harsh living conditions. She lived most of her life in that manner.

Makes me appreciate my pops even more.

She sounds to have been a great influence on you. I love my ancestors and the stories they told of hard times,Depression times, dust bowl, sharecropping,Migrant work. Makes a person appreciate how easy life is and to delve deeply into a more primitive mindset.   Prayer for you and her.  '  Frank

Sorry for your loss, Cip.  Nearly every morning I walk outside my home, look around and remind myself how good it is.

Very sorry for your loss.  Seems you have great memories of her and she showed you alot just by example.  Definately sounds like a tough lady who will be missed.  Prayers for you and your family.

Much appreciated amigo. Thank you mucho. So true Pappy. So True. Funeral was today. She was 62. Young by today's standards.
