Where can I find chert here
« on: August 23, 2012, 01:33:09 am »
I live around Phoenix/Scottsdale AZ where there are tons of rocks. the problem is I have no idea if I am walking over a nice chunk of jasper/flint or just a stone. There are dried riverbeds AKA washes that seem like they would be a great place to look but I don't know. Where should I look?

Can anyone help me identify this stuff also? I really want to practice knapping. I found a few rocks that sparked when I struck them but they looked nothing like flint from the pictures I saw. Thanks

Hard to tell from the Pic, but it doesn't look like flint or chert to me.
