Step of the Month

This is Leslie's idea, but I had such an excellent candidate I had to run with it.  Check this out...





I've been mourning this goof for awhile.  I'll eventually shorten it to the step and then try to knock it off with a flute or 2.

Anyone else?

I'm sure I've had 12 steps in the last week or 2.  Does that mean I'm cured??

I did go out and finish this point after taking that depressing picture.  Really tough stone.  The issue was a little island of concrete.  I must've whacked it 10 times as hard as I could on the base with indirect percussion to try and flute it and it never broke.  Weird.  It isn't as thin at the back as I'd hoped, but the front 2/3 of the point are as thin as I've ever done using the bopper.



This is the side that had the step/stack,



and the other side.



At nearly 200gr it'll probably end up a little neck knife.

Beautiful point.  Great job on getting rid of the step.  I've got a nice piece of Georgetown waiting for me with a similar step and I don't have the concrete excuse, just poor knapping.  Thanks for posting, it gives me hope.

Oh yeah! That looks like some of that good ole toughern'nails tx crap, haha. Hard to do anything with without a lot of heat but you tamed her right down George.. Getting out from under a stack like that is an  art form of it's own...

Well thank you all, doesn't seem like that good a point to me, still has some steps in it.  I had to shorten it most of the way into that step as I could not get a flake to run through it.  I didn't even try to notch it since the concrete is still in the way on one side.  I noticed the concrete is really obvious under the fluorescent lighting here at work so I snapped another pic, actually of the back side where it's more noticeable.  It's really too bad I couldn't have run flakes through it, it would have been my best blade so far.  O well.



Patrick, I just watched your new notching video.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I have lots of new things to try now.  :)
