no idea?!?

Ok my question is about the rock, not the break. Which was totally preventable and just a lack of focus on my part. I feel it is a disservice to those on here still learning for me to only show my success. So, as painful as it is, I bare my soul for teaching purposes only (believe me, this was very frustrating!)

I found this rock in the same creek I find all my rock and wanted to see if it would work. After 2 rounds of heating it to 550 it seemed to work fairly well. Was able to knock this blade out without too much problem. It was very graiy before heat and sorta grainy smooth after. Any idea what this is???

Just wondering, do you have any quartzite in your area? The second picture reminds me of some of the stuff I saw at Spanish Diggings.
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.
