Thought i would share the preform if it is worng let me know.
All of the pattern practice is paying off now. No steps no big high or low spots noproblems so far. I am asking myself why are you not putting a point on it and notching it. This is a nice preform why ruin it. The answer is I have been there before. Will flute tonight. Pic coming in next post

Looks good John. I use an Ishi stick with an anvil in the ridge area to build a nice peaked ridge line. The stronger the ridge line is the easier it is to get the flute to travel

Well I was very lucky on my first two jig flute tries. I paid my dues tonight. I will be posting lots of pics late tonight. Many failure pics and reasons why and successes and why

Wrong setup nipple too far forward. I had an angle outward thats was not good

I moved the contact point back and pressure flaked the other flute out. I rounded the front of the nipple and this all made good thing happen. Also I changed the bit angle.

Hey bear claw i saw on the other post that you would like a photo so i will post one in a few minutes of my jig. I got the direction from the puget sound knappers web site. I think the directions for making the jig are confussing and are not correct in relationship to the photo. I made mine a little differently because of the bit. I would also use a piece of all thread for the rest of the bit rather than the holes because i have to use shims to get ev erything set up correctly.

The lever was too weak so I beefed it up. Here is a picture of the new revised handle.

cool post John. I saw one of those jigs on the web. thought maybe once the arthritis sets in, it might make for a few more years of knapping. cool post, dpg
