Found a stave I had forgot about, SCORE!
« on: May 29, 2012, 06:43:25 pm »
I put this stave up in the rafters in my shop at work to dry. It has really nice rings and a little character. Problem is, I can't remember how old it is. It feels very dry. I put it up there earlier this year.. maybe Jan. Feb. Not sure when it was cut though.

I'm going to scrape on it some and see how the inside feels.

Well, that's good. So you can rough it out and  weigh it for a week to see if it changes weight. Jawge

Jawgey poo's idea is perfect. Age doesnt mean much in terms of dryness, but weight means everything.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Not sure that I have a scale that will be accurate enough to measure a couple weeks worth of moisture.

Walmart has a digital kitchen scale for $19.  It is accurate enough for what you need.  It also works for weighing arrows and points.  I use mine pretty often in the shop.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

No, no, that's my stave, I knew I'd put it somewhere safe  ::). Or maybe Mrs Cat tidied it away...

Reminds my of the joke about the guy tidying the loft, he finds a box of ancient papers with a shoe repairers ticket amongst them.
Must have been his grand pappys work boots.
He's curious to see the boots so he takes the ticket into the old store which is still running.
The old fellah behind the countertakes one look at the ticket and say.
"They'll be ready by Friday"  ;D

I hope that joke still works on your side of the pond.
