Maxwell Wildlife Refuge Knap-In

Come join other flint knappers at scenic Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, located 6 miles north and 1 ½ miles west of Canton, Ks. Primitive camping will be available on the grounds or at McPherson State Fishing Lake 1 ½ miles west of the Headquarters area. The knap-in will be held in conjunction with the Friend’s of Maxwell Fall Rendezvous. Mountain men camps, traders, buffalo herd tours, and bluegrass music are part of the event. There will be concessions on the grounds. Usually the elk are bugling this time of year. Last year 1400 visitors attended, approximately 500 school kids on Friday. Bring your rock, trade items, and points for sale, a tarp to catch chips, and chair. Setup allowed as early as Thursday evening. No vehicles will be allowed in the exhibition area after set-up. The public will be invited to attend on Friday and Saturday, participants are invited to stay for Sunday. Come break some rock in a unique Kansas setting!
