New Archery Range, Deerfield, MA
« on: May 13, 2012, 07:55:31 am »
Hey everyone.

Yesterday we put most of the finishing touches on a new archery range. This project has been the clumination of about 3 years of work, and finally came together over the last few months. My club, the Franklin County Sportsmen's Club, hasn't had a formal archery range in over 2 decades. After I submitted a design, many members contributed, including the design of the target houses, the backstop fencing design and construction, grading and filing, tree removal, and if you live in New England, you know how challeging the soil is, being mostly rocks with a little soil mixed in :) We now have good basic range that can be expanded in the future. A lot of small businesses benefited with this project, and now we can grow the archery program in a lot of ways (Kuydo, kid programs, competitions, etc).

The project came in under budget and ahead of schedule, and it was so cool seeing my design come together over the last few months.

Here are a few photos. Mods, feel free to move this subject to anther area as you see fit.

Thanks Pappy. Thanks, Noel. You know about our wonderful soil then, being from this region.

Sorry to hear that, Newindian. At least you have awesome bbq.

Yes, I wouldn't miss it. I will probably be there on the Sat. of the event. I hope you can make it this year, too.

Thanks, Jimbob. It is a basic 10 - 40 yard range, but will serve my club nicely. I'm building some hawk / knife targets, and also plan to sink in a fire pit adjacent to the range with logs to sit on, a few picnic tables, a bow rack, stuff like that.
